Imdur (Isosorbide Mononitrate)
General information
Imdur belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart. Imdur is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in patients with a certain heart condition (coronary artery disease). It will not treat an angina attack that has already begun. This medication may also be used with other drugs to improve the symptoms of heart failure (such as trouble breathing).
Directions
Take Imdur exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended adult dose is 60 mg taken once daily in the morning after getting up. Your doctor may increase the dose to 120 mg once daily in the morning if necessary. To reduce the risk of headache, your doctor may suggest starting with 30 mg once daily each morning for the first 2 to 4 days. Swallow this medication whole with half a glass of water.
