Aristocort (Triamcinolone)

General information

Aristocort is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation and modifying the body's immune system. It is used to treat certain skin conditions, including psoriasis and allergic eczema, insufficiency of the adrenal cortex, inflammatory disorders, allergic disorders, and connective tissue disorders. It may also be used to relieve itchiness.

Directions

Use Aristocort as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take it by mouth with food. To reduce side effects, take Aristocort around 8 a.m. in the morning. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Precautions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, if you have a skin infection, measles, thinning of the skin, tuberculosis, allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances. Children may be more likely to experience the side effects. Do not receive a live vaccine (e.g. measles, mumps) while you are taking Aristocort. Aristocort may affect your blood sugar in diabetes patients. Check blood sugar levels closely.

Contraindications

Do not use Aristocort if you are allergic to any ingredient in Aristocort, if you have a skin infection caused by viruses, tuberculosis of the skin, untreated infected skin lesions caused by an infection with fungi or bacteria.

Possible side effect

Seek medical attention right away if any of these side effects occur: headache, rash, hives, changes in appetite, itching, difficulty breathing, blurry vision, redness, mental or mood changes, muscle weakness, changes in menstrual cycle, stomach bloating, swelling of the skin, rise in body temperature, tiredness, nausea, vision problems.

Drug interactions

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking. Aristocort can interact with other topical medications that contain corticosteroids or that have irritating effects. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Overdose

If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once.

Storage

Store the medicine at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
